Wine tasting with Merry Tom
“Where there is no wine there is no love.“
We are delighted to welcome Will Croxford from Merry Tom wines in Brixworth as host of our wine tasting sessions in 2026. A fifth generation farmer, Will and his wife Tor Robinson run one of Northamptonshire’s most celebrated vineyards.
Planted in 2019, the terroir produces a stable of acclaimed wines and Will will have them all on hand for your to try at our free wine tasting sessions. He will recount the history of the vineyard and also, believe it or not, reveal how Northamptonshire is the oldest wine-producing region in the country thanks to the Romans.
Wine Tasting with Will from Merry Tom
Pull up a seat for an unforgettable wine-tasting, featuring their Bacchus, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir Rosé. Will will lead you through a journey of flavour, heritage and discovery over both days of the festival, showcasing the brilliance of English winemaking.
“Our vines thrive in the distinctive ironstone soil, renowned for its excellent drainage and mineral richness — qualities that impart depth, structure, and complexity to our wines. This unique terroir, combined with meticulous vineyard care, allows us to produce fruit with a perfect balance of ripeness, vibrant acidity, and finesse.
“Planted on south-facing slopes that capture the gentle warmth of the English sun, encouraging a slow, steady ripening process enhancing the nuanced flavours that define every bottle of Merry Tom.”
Tasting sessions at 12.30pm and 2.30pm
Celebrate the elegance of the Northamptonshire terroir with a curated tasting of all three of Merry Tom’s exceptional wines.
Bacchus – Aromatic and vibrant, with elderflower, citrus zest and green apple, leading to a crisp and expressive finish. Bacchus pairs beautifully with seafood, particularly delicate fish like sole or plaice.
The wine’s crisp acidity makes it an excellent match for salads, especially those featuring citrus-herb vinaigrettes or asian stir-fries. Highly suggested with mixed greens salad topped with grilled chicken, salmon or goats cheese. Alternatively simply it can be enjoyed on its own.
Each session will be expertly guided, engaging and informal, offering a rare opportunity to explore premium Northampontshire wines. Whether you’re a seasoned wine lover or simply curious, these tastings promise to be a festival highlight.
Lasting around 40 minutes, each session is limited to 30 people each. They are free and it is first-come, first-served so please get there early if you want to get a seat and take part. The talks will take place in The Library.
